This is not a typical internship.
Most internships hand you a practice project nobody will ever use. At Velant, you will ship production code on a US healthcare AI platform and work directly with the founders. Finish strong, and six months is only the beginning. We are hiring four interns in this round.
What Velant is
Velant is an AI platform for US healthcare practices, built especially for mental health and addiction treatment clinics. Rather than juggling disconnected tools, a clinic runs everything in one HIPAA-compliant system: the CRM, medical records (EHR), phone and SMS, AI agents that answer calls and book appointments, e-prescribing, telehealth and insurance billing.
It is a hard problem in one of the most regulated industries there is. And it matters: behind every lead in our system is a real person trying to get help.
How we work
- We move quickly. Ideas become production features in days, not quarters.
- We speak plainly. No busywork, no politics. Say what you think — and "I don't know" is a perfectly good answer.
- Feedback is direct. Code reviews are candid and specific, and you are always shown how to put things right.
- You own your work. You ship it, you communicate about it, and you support it when it breaks.
This is a demanding environment, and it is meant to be — and it is how you get good fast.
What you will work on
Real tickets from the real roadmap, matched to your strengths:
- AI voice and messaging agents that answer calls, reply to patients and book appointments, 24/7
- The EHR: clinical notes, patient records and treatment plans
- Insurance eligibility and claims: unglamorous work, and some of the most valuable in US healthcare
- E-prescribing, including controlled substances
- HIPAA-compliant telehealth video
- Cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure
- The mobile app for clinicians and patients
Our stack
- Languages: TypeScript, JavaScript
- Frontend: React
- Backend: Node.js, NestJS
- Database: PostgreSQL
- Cloud: Microsoft Azure
- Voice, SMS and video: Azure Communication Services
- AI: LLM-powered agents
We build AI-first, every day.
What you get
- Production experience that counts. Real features on a live US healthcare platform, not a sandbox project.
- Your AI coding tools, provided. Tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, so you learn to build the way the best engineering teams work today.
- Direct access to the founders. No layers of management between you and the people making the decisions.
- A CV that stands out. Production code, AI agents, HIPAA and US healthcare systems, before you have even graduated.
- University paperwork handled. We will sign your training logbooks and complete your evaluations so the internship can count toward your degree (subject to your university's approval).
- A written recommendation letter from the founders when you finish strong, specific to the work you actually shipped.
- Performance bonuses for shipping significant work.
Where this can go
Six months is the start, not the ceiling.
- A full-time role once you graduate. Interns who finish strong are very likely to be offered a full-time position on the engineering team, on a full salary, once they complete their degree. This is how we prefer to hire.
- Leadership. We are early. The people who prove themselves now are the ones who will lead teams as Velant grows.
- The United States. For exceptional people who build a long-term future with us, we are open to exploring US visa sponsorship. It is not a promise and it depends on US immigration rules, but for the right person it is a real possibility.
Who we are looking for
We care what you can build, not which university you go to.
- An undergraduate in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, IT or a related field, available full-time for 6 months
- Strong fundamentals, with evidence that you have built real things: GitHub, projects, hackathons or freelance work
- Comfortable with JavaScript or TypeScript
- You use AI tools every day, and you know when not to trust them
- Clear, professional written English. You will work with a US-based team every day and, just as importantly, communicate with US clients. Much of that communication is written, and it represents Velant.
- Availability during some US business hours when requirements call for it. Most of your work is on your own schedule, but releases, client calls and incidents will sometimes need a few hours of overlap with US Central Time. We are happy to discuss what that looks like for you.
Bonus points for: React, Node.js or NestJS, PostgreSQL, Azure, anything built on an LLM API, a hackathon win, or a side project with real users.
How to apply
Hit Apply Now. Our application is not a form. It's eight engineering problems across the whole stack — backend correctness, live coding, a React bug hunt, schema and API design, and judgment calls — and the first one starts before you've typed your name. Have your one-page CV (PDF) and your GitHub or portfolio link ready. Budget about an hour.
AI tools are allowed. We'll ask where you used them. Hiding it is the only wrong answer.
The process: we review your application, you do a practical coding task (no trick puzzles), then you talk to the founders. Fast, like everything else here.
